One of the most important things to understand when buying vintage jewelry is condition grading. At Velvet Season Atelier, every piece is graded honestly and transparently — so you always know exactly what you're getting before it arrives.
Here's what each grade means in practice.
Grade A — Excellent Vintage Condition
An A-grade piece is in excellent condition with little to no visible signs of wear. It may have been barely worn, stored carefully, or simply aged exceptionally well. You can expect it to look nearly new.
Examples from our collection: the Gold Plated Chain Bracelet / Anklet, the Gold Statement Disc Belt, the Vintage Silver Champagne Statement Ring, and the Bracelet with Pearl-Look Beads.
Grade B+ — Very Good Vintage Condition
A B+ piece shows only light signs of wear consistent with age — the kind of patina that comes from being loved and worn. These signs are minor and do not affect the beauty or wearability of the piece. Most people would not notice them unless looking closely.
Examples: the Freshwater Pearl Bracelet, the Twisted Gold Hoop Earrings, the Leather Chain Statement Belt, the Vintage Amethyst Clip-On Earrings, and the Textured Gold Hoop Earrings.
Grade B — Good Vintage Condition
A B-grade piece has visible signs of wear consistent with its age and history. These signs are honest and expected for a vintage item — they do not affect wearability, but they are visible upon inspection. We always describe exactly what the wear looks like in the product description.
Examples: the Gold Metallic Crescent Bag (minor fading to metallic finish), the Statement Knot Tassel Necklace, the Baroque Freshwater Pearl Bracelet (minor thread shift between beads).
Grade B– — Good Vintage Condition with a Noted Flaw
A B– piece is still beautiful and wearable, but has a specific flaw that we describe in detail. We believe in full transparency — if there's something to note, we note it clearly so you can make an informed decision.
Example: the Vintage Faux Pearl Statement Necklace, where a light wear mark is visible on the central pearl upon close inspection but is not noticeable when worn.
